DUBAI WOMEN’S COLLEGE BUSINESS TEACHER WINS TEACHING EXCELLENCE AWARD
24 April 2005, DUBAI, UAE

Dubai Women's College (DWC) announced today that K.V.N. Rao, a member of the Business Faculty, was recently awarded the Region 8 Teaching Excellence Award by the American-based Association of Collegiate Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP). The ACBSP structure is composed of eight regions, seven in the United States and one which includes the international colleges that are accredited by the organization. Mr. Rao will receive his award at the ACBSP’s 16th Annual Conference in Washington, D.C. in June.

The criteria used by the ACBSP for selection of the award include innovation, creativity and community involvement. “Rao has consistently succeeded in implementing DWC’s mission of preparing young UAE Nationals for the workplace by implementing a blended approach to teaching and learning through the use of IT and business,” stated Dr. Howard Reed, DWC Director. “He is an exemplary teaching professional who has been duly recognized for his innovative teaching methods by the receipt of this award by his peers.”

Prior to coming to DWC nine years ago, Mr. Rao gained extensive experience teaching business in Singapore and working in the IT industry in India. His cross-functional expertise in business and IT has proven to be a perfect mix for the students at the College.

About the ACBSP
The ACBSP is recognized both nationally and internationally as the leading specialized accrediting agency for business education to support, celebrate and reward excellence in teaching and learning outcomes. The organization has accredited 261 institutions in eight regions. The Business programs at Dubai Women’s College were accredited by the ACBSP in 2002 after thorough screening by the association. Accreditation is dependent on maintaining a high standard of faculty qualifications as well as implementing teaching methodologies that are the most advantageous for students preparing themselves for the workplace. The College’s practical approach to vocational education is well known in the community for turning out graduates that are highly sought after by industry. In September, the college began accepting students into a Bachelor of Applied Science in Business and Management with the opportunity to major in Accounting, Business Administration, Financial Services and Banking or Travel and Tourism. A Bachelor of Applied Science in E-Commerce is also offered.

An ACBSP accreditation ensures that business schools and programs that are accredited have met rigorous criteria which indicate a high and acceptable level of educational quality. ACBSP is devoted to promoting excellence in teaching/learning in business schools and programs in higher education. It accomplishes this objective in part through the accrediting process and in part through other activities sponsored by ACBSP.

Accreditation by ACBSP attests to a business unit's high level of achievement in delivering quality education and provides reliable and meaningful guidance:
(1) to prospective students who plan to enroll in business degree programs, and
(2) to employers who plan to hire the graduates of ACBSP accredited business schools and programs.
